About Stokes & Moncreiff

Stokes and Moncreiff is an independent pub situated in TW1, just a short walk from Twickenham town and train station and a few minutes further from the home of English Rugby.

Our aim is to provide great, home cooked food, wonderful hospitality and a homely environment in which to relax and enjoy yourself with friends, family or colleagues.

‘Why Stokes and Moncreiff?’ we hear you ask. Well....On the 27th March 1871 at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh the first ever recorded Rugby International game was played infront of 4000 spectators. The match was between England and Scotland, and the two men leading out their teams - Frederick Stokes and Francis Moncreiff.

Simon Shaw Profile

He was born 1 September 1973 in Nairobi, Kenya. At 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in), he is one of the tallest men to have played for England. Shaw has represented England at various levels including students and Under-21s. He played for Bristol at 17. This was despite not taking up the game seriously until he was 16, just after his family had moved to England from Spain. He was educated at Runnymede College, in Madrid and at Godalming College in Surrey. He also played for Cranleigh Rugby Club in his younger years, and often returns to train with the youth teams.

Simons rugby career is well documented and extensive. Highlights include 3 Heineken Cup wins, 1 World Cup winners medal, 3 Premiership titles – he is the 7th most capped English forward & the most experienced player to have played in the Premiership.
